The second generation of Volkswagen’s popular crossover is finally coming to North America. To remind you, the original model came more than ten years ago, and we finally saw redesign last year. The second generation was firstly presented in Europe last year, which North American model finally came this January as 2018 VW Tiguan. It had its premiere at Detroit Auto Show, and it comes with some major changes compared to the European version. It will come with big growth in dimensions, especially when it comes to wheelbase and overall length. So, it will become a three-row seat crossover, like most of the competitors in this class. This long wheelbase version will be also available in Europe, under 2018 Tiguan Allspace name. Since it already had its premiere, we expect it on market in near future.
2018 VW Tiguan redesign
The 2018 VW Tiguan had its premiere a few months ago and we saw plenty of new things. It rides on new MQB platform, which company uses for many new models like Audi Q3, Audi A3, Golf etc. This model uses a special version of this platform, with a longer wheelbase that provides many benefits. Compared to original, new model feature a 4.3 inches longer wheelbase, and more than 10 inches in overall weight. This practically puts 2018 VW Tiguan in class with models like Honda Pilot, Hyundai Santa Fe, and other seven-seaters.
When it comes to styling, 2018 VW Tiguan features brand’s latest design philosophy, which comes with no surprises, in classic VW manner. Interior is also completely new. It comes with new styling and with significantly more space. The dashboard is completely new, and new 2018 VW Tiguan borrows some details from Audi models, such as digital instrument gauges etc.
2018 VW Tiguan engines
The 2018 VW Tiguan will come with many engines in the offer, just it is the case with all models from this brand. There are familiar gasoline and diesel units, but some reports suggest hybrid version as well. However, North American model has only one unit confirmed so far. It is a 2.0-liter TSI gasoline unit, which is good for about 184 horses and 220 pound-feet of torque. This unit comes in pair with 8-speed automatic transmission. Since diesel doesn’t play important role in North America, don’t expect TDI units in the offer. A hybrid version might come in upcoming years.
2018 VW Tiguan price
The 2018 VW Tiguan will probably have a starting price around 26.000 dollars. Main competitors will be models like Honda Pilot, Toyota Highlander, Hyundai Santa Fe etc.
