The crossover market is getting pretty huge these days and we are witnessing completely new sub-segments, which are taking place between traditional classes of vehicles. This one is a perfect example. The all-new 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer uses a familiar nameplate, but it is completely different from the previous models under this nameplate. This time, we are talking about a unibody crossover and a much smaller vehicle, which is positioned between subcompact and compact segments.
In terms of both size and mechanics, it shares a lot with the new Buick Encore GX, which was also introduced for the Chinese market and we are now waiting for its arrival to North America. In any case, the new 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer is a nice-looking small crossover, which is designed particularly for younger generations but could be interesting for a wider range of potential buyers as well. We expect to see it in North America soon.
2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer Design
Despite the familiar nameplate, we are talking about a brand-new model in this case. The 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer doesn’t have anything in common with the previous, Trailblazer SUV, which ended production a decade ago. In this case, we are talking about a crossover, which rides on the company’s new VSS platform, just like the Encore GX. It features a typical FF layout, though we expect that all-wheel drive will be in the offer as well.
In terms of the styling, you can easily notice that a lot of inspiration has been taken from the, also, new mid-size Blazer. Once again, there is a super-sharp face, inspired by the legendary Camaro pony car. The rest of the vehicle is also characterized by pretty sharp edges and lots of angular design solutions. In terms of size, the new model takes place between the entry-level Trax and compact Equinox. Therefore, we presume one of the biggest rivals will be the new Mazda CX-30.
GM struggles with interior designs these years. Considering that this is a subcompact crossover, we won’t be that harsh. The interior quality seems quite decent, particularly the dashboard, which features some soft-touch surfaces as well. The dashboard shape is attractive, while the center stack combines touchscreen interface with analog buttons. The thing we like about it is the steering wheel, which looks quite attractive and doesn’t’ look oversized like in Trax and some other subcompact cars under Chevy’s badge. When it comes to the interior space, both rows are spacious enough to accommodate adult passengers. The cargo volume seems decent as well.
2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, the current Chinese version uses a new, quite efficient 1.3-liter turbo-four engine. It is good for about 165 horsepower. Interestingly, it is available with a CVT gearbox, though a 9-speed manual is standard. This engine could easily be offered in North America, though we presume it wouldn’t be the only option in the offer. We don’t count Trax’s lackluster 1.4-liter unit, but a 1.5-liter turbo-from Equinox might seem like a good choice.
This engine is good for about 170 horsepower and also feature pretty good fuel economy. In the Equinox, it returns around 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. We presume that mpg ratings would be even higher in the 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer. The engine comes in pair with a 6-speed automatic gearbox.
2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer Release Date and Price
We expect to see 2020 Chevrolet Trailblazer in North America sometime in the next year. When it comes to the price, we presume that base models will go around 22/23.000 dollars.
