We are getting ready to see the next generation of the Mercedes-Benz’s smallest crossover in the lineup. The new model is about to come later in the year and we have big expectations from it. Of course, it will come as the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA and it will come with several improvements over the outgoing model. Once again, it will be heavily based on the small A-Class hatchback. These two models have been sharing most design solutions for years and there is no reason why this shouldn’t happen in the future as well. This involves both mechanics and aesthetics, as well as pretty much the same interior design.
Moreover, we count on the same engines in the offer. The initial model will probably come with one or two units in the offer, while hi-performance versions with AMG treatment should come a year later. This one should hit the market in the third half of the year.

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA Redesign
The upcoming model will come improved in many ways and one of the main reasons for that is a new platform. Of course, we are talking about the same architecture that underprints the new A-Class, which has brought a lot of improvements in terms of comfort and driving experience. The new model will be lighter and more efficiency. More importantly, it will be more driveable, with better handling and driving dynamics. Of course, we count on new styling as well.
We have no doubt that the new model will feature pretty much the same aesthetics as its hatchback sibling. Practically, the two models should be identical on the front side, while the back end will be a little bit more massive, in order to make this crossover not just stylish, but to put a bit of practicality as well. Still, the main difference will be higher ground clearance
Interior
On the inside, we expect to see pretty much the same design as in the new A-Class. This means practically the identical dashboard layout, which is highlighted by massive air vents and a huge integrated screen setup, which includes both the infotainment system and instrument cluster. Of course, the rest of the dash will be the same as well, which is a great thing, considering all the quality materials and plenty of styles. Besides great overall quality, the new cabin will also be quite functional and comfortable.

New front seats will be more comfortable, while some reports suggest that the legroom in the second row could be increased for a bit. Same refers to the cargo area, which currently isn’t the most spacious in the class. It features 17 cubic feet behind the second row, while the overall volume goes around 44 cubic feet.
Features
Of course, a whole bunch of new features is expected to come with the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA. This particularly refers to tech goodies, though we must say that the current model already stands pretty well in this aspect.
As we already mentioned, there is a new setup of two 7-inch screens housed next to each other. Also, the company will install the latest MBUX infotainment system, which debuted in the A-Class recently. Among many new functions and features, one of the most interesting is a new voice recognition system, which allows you to give commands in a conversational way. If 7-inch screens seem too small, you can opt for bigger 10.25 screens, which will besides enhanced functionality also improves the overall visual appeal of the dashboard.
In terms of safety, all models will feature things like adaptive cruise control, forward collision warning, pedestrian detection, and automatic emergency braking. Also, count on a lot of optional advanced systems, such as lane departure warning, lane keep assist, and blind spot monitoring and many more.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA Engines
As we already mentioned, the initial model will probably come with a couple of engines in the offer. There is a big chance to see a new 1.3-liter turbo-four in base models, with around 160 horsepower. A bigger 2.0-liter turbo-four will definitely come, most likely in two output variants, with either 190 or 220 horsepower. A hi-performance version under the AMG badge will probably come next year, with a max output of around 300 horsepower.

On certain markets, we will see diesel engines in the offer as well. Of course, that should be a 2.0-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 190 horsepower. All models should come with a 7-speed DCT transmission.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLA Release Date and Price
The new model is almost ready and the latest reports are suggesting it could hit the market already in the third quarter of the year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect to see a bigger departure from the current model, which features the base price of around 34.000 dollars.
