We are getting ready for the next, third generation of the company’s flagship crossover, which is about to come as the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS. The new model had a premier a couple of months ago at the New Your Auto Show and we are now waiting for the official launch, which should happen sometime in the third quarter of the year. Although the outgoing model is still a pretty amazing crossover, the Company wants to keep its flagship model super-fresh and to retain its position on the market, which has been jeopardized after the launch of the all-new BMW X7 models.
Therefore, the company has prepared a lot of novelties for this occasion. There is a completely new design, which provides better driving characteristics, more efficiency and improved comfort. Of course, there is a new styling, as well as a completely new cabin. All in all, seems enough to retain one of the leading positions in the segment.

2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS Redesign
This redesign brings a lot of novelties. We saw a premiere a couple of months ago and everyone agrees that the new model looks great. From the visual aspect, it adopts the brand’s newest design language, In practice, this means changes that are rather evolutionary. Of course, new headlights are in the spotlight, as well as the new octagon grille layout. Multibeam LED headlights with three lighting groups make it clear that you are looking at the flagship model, while the large badge on the grille gives a bit of sporty flavor. Of course, there is also a new front bumper, which comes in a couple of different shapes, depending on the trim level you choose.
In terms of style, the new model is slightly bigger than before. It gets about 2.5-inches in the wheelbase and around 1.2 inches in overall length. As you can see, this means a little bit shorter overhangs, which will definitely have a positive impact on off-road performances, which aren’t great in the outgoing model. Still, the company never even wanted to offer some spectacular performances. This is still a comfort-oriented model.
Interior
Of course, the interior is also completely new. Compared to the previous generation, the new model looks even more luxurious. Naturally, hi-end materials are all around the cabin, while the front seats offer an impressive level of comfort. Still, new “integrated” screens are definitely highlights of the new cabin. This layout includes joint touchscreen and instrument cluster, which make one unit and dominate the dashboard. Another notable thing is four air-vents under these screens, which bring a little bit of retro flavor.

Typically for a full-size SUV, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS will come standard with three rows of seats. As we already mentioned, fronts seats are spacious and extremely comfortable. Same goes for the second row. In higher trims, you can also get the captain’s chairs. Finally, there is the third row, which is also surprisingly spacious. The company claims that even taller people will have more than enough comfort in the last row.
2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, the 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLS will come with several familiar engines in the offer. Of course, each one will come with some kind of upgrade. Base models will feature a new 3.0-liter six-cylinder, which is good for about 365 horsepower. This version also comes with a mild 48-V hybrid system, which provides additional 22 horsepower and a lot of additional torque, which is definitely highly beneficial. Of course, a well-known V8 will also be in the offer, and it will come with the same hybrid system. The engine by itself delivers around 490 horsepower. Finally, we expect to see an AMG version in the near future.
In Europe and a couple of more markets, we will see diesel versions in the offer as well. Of course, you can count on a familiar 2.9-liter six-cylinder, which will come in two output variants. The base version is good for about 285 horses, but you can also opt for a more powerful version with pretty solid 330 hp.
