Diversity around the world is huge, so carmakers still have numerous vehicles that are designed for a certain market. This is one of them and it is designed primarily for southeast Asia, for countries like Malaysia, Indonesia etc. Although one of the world’s largest carmakers, even Toyota can’t develop all of its models by its own. This model is actually designed by Daihatsu. More precisely, the 2020 Toyota Rush will continue to be based on Daihatsu Terios. The two models share pretty much everything, except for the badge. The current, second generation came last year. Therefore, we are pretty sure that bigger changes won’t come. Also, we expect to see the new model late in the year.
2020 Toyota Rush Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Toyota Rush will continue to do what it does best, to be small but functional. The new model rides on the same platform as the previous generation, on its long-wheelbase version, more precisely. Short-wheelbase models are not in the offer anymore, so all Rush models are now compact in size, with quite respectable 105.7 inches in wheelbase. Of course, the platform received various tweaks, so the new model rides much better and delivers pretty decent performances and ride quality.
In terms of the exterior design, this redesign has brought new aesthetics as well. There is a completely new styling. Although it still doesn’t have much in common with the rest of Toyota models, its design is far more up to date. The new aesthetics are more aggressive, with lots of sharp lines and all other design solutions that are typical for modern crossovers.
Interior
The recent redesign has also brought a new interior design. Considering that the vehicle is designed primarily for developing markets, it’s no wonder that the overall quality isn’t on the same level as in other Toyota models. Most of the dashboard is made from hard plastics, though higher trims offer sporadic leather surfaces. Still, that doesn’t mean that the 2020 Toyota Rush won’ be a nice place to be in. The overall cabin design looks quite nice and the interesting thing is that, although being a compact crossover, the Rush comes standard with three rows of seats. Also, the amount of standard and available features is pretty decent. In higher trims, you can also get leather seats, sunroof and similar conveniences.
In terms of safety, blind-spot monitoring with rear-cross traffic alert, ESP and pre-collision system are standard features. You can also get traction control, hill-start assist, front departure warning and more.
Powertrain
When it comes to the powertrain, things are pretty familiar with the new generation and we probably won’t see bigger changes for the 2020 Toyota Rush. The new model carried on with a familiar 1.5-liter gasoline engine, which is good for about 105 horsepower and comes in a pair with 4-speed automatic transmission. This gearbox seems a little bit outdated but works okay. Still, various reports are suggesting that changes could come in the near future. We presume that the company will wait for a mid-cycle refresh to introduce a new transmission. Another interesting thing to mention is that the new generation comes with rear-wheel drive only. AWD models are not available anymore.
2020 Toyota Rush Release Date and Price
When it comes to 2020 Toyota Rush release date, we don’t expect surprises. The upcoming model won’t feature bigger changes, so it should hit the market sometime late in the year. The price will also remain pretty much the same. It largely depends on the market but base models usually go around 17/18.000 dollars.
