The Japanese luxury carmaker did a fantastic job with the new RDX and we are now expecting to do the same with its bigger sibling. The segment of mid-size SUV is one of the toughest segments among luxury brands and the current generation definitely needs updates. The end of Honda’s usual 7-year production cycle is getting close, so an all-new 2021 Acura MDX seems like a certain thing.
For this occasion, we count on a full load of novelties. We count on improvements in various aspects, considering that the current generation has a couple of notable issues. Of course, the first thing that comes to mind is styling, which will be adapted to the brand’s latest design language. Of course, new mechanics are also a certain thing, as well as a completely new cabin, full of new tech features.
Novelties are possible under the hood as well, though the company is still quiet on this matter. Various reports are suggesting a turbo-four option. When it comes to the launch date, we presume the new model will hit the market sometime in the second half of the next year.
2021 Acura MDX Redesign
We have no doubt that the upcoming redesign will bring a lot of novelties. Naturally, the first thing we should mention are the improvements we expect to see. One of the biggest issues with the current generation is the ride quality, which can sometimes be too firm for the premium segment. Also, we don’t like the lack of good sound insulation, which makes this crossover pretty loud on the highway. Also, we expect that the company will solve a couple of mechanical issues, which cause below-average reliability ratings, which is a pretty untypical thing for models that come from Honda.
Of course, the new model will once again come based on familiar Honda siblings, Pilot and Ridgeline, which are expected to come redesigned soon as well.
Styling and Exterior Design
Naturally, the first thing that comes to mind with this redesign is the styling. Of course, we count on completely new aesthetics, which will be based on Acura’s latest design language. In practice, this would mean a lot of similarities with the recently redesigned RDX. A lot of styling details will be borrowed, but the new 2021 Acura MDX will come with a couple of exclusive details as well. After all, we are talking about a flagship model of the brand. A lot of styling details will be borrowed, but the new 2021 Acura MDX will come with a couple of exclusive details as well. After all, we are talking about a flagship model of the brand.
In terms of dimensions, we don’t expect significant changes. The new model will remain in the class of mid-size crossover. The current model measures 111 inches in wheelbase, while the new one should be slightly longer, which will definitely bring benefits in terms of the interior space and overall comfort.
One of the biggest complaints about the current generation refers to interior design. Although the cabin generally looks good, it lacks opulence and style of a premium crossover. Most materials feature high quality, though there are a couple of areas with cheap plastics. Given the new RDX and its amazing interior design, we expect that the things will be even better with the 2021 Acura MDX. We will know more details in the future.
As we’ve just mentioned, a slight increase in terms of size is expected. Therefore, the new 2021 Acura MDX should feature a little bit more space on the inside, compared to the outgoing model. That particularly refers to the third row of seats. It is quite tight and definitely not adult-friendly, but that shouldn’t be taken as a drawback, considering that this is a pretty common thing among mid-size crossover. Also, we count on a slight improvement in terms of the cargo volume.
2021 Acura MDX Engines
When it comes to the powertrain, the current model stands pretty good. Base models are equipped with a well-known 3.5-liter V6, which is good for about 290 horsepower. Such amount of power is more than enough for a convenient ride and if we add to this a good fuel economy, it seems certain that the same engine will find the place under the hood of the new model as well. Of course, smaller modifications are possible, so the new model could get a little bit more power.
When it comes to the hybrid model, the current system still looks pretty good. It features a 3.0-liter V6 engine, which comes with two electric motors for a total output of 321 horsepower. Still, a couple of modifications are about to come.
Some reports also suggest we could see a turbo-four engine option. Of course, we are talking about a 2.0-liter engine, the same one that can be found in the new Accord.
2021 Acura MDX Release Date and Price
The 2021 Acura MDX still waits for the official confirmation, although many reports suggest its arrival already in the next year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes, so base models should go around 45.000 dollars.
