2021 Chevy Equinox Facelift, Changes, Specs

The 2021 Chevy Equinox is about to receive a mid-cycle refresh. Those are the latest reports about the compact crossover, which may look fresh but definitely needs updates to be competitive. The current generation has been around for just a couple of years but it hardly keeps the pace with rivals, which look and drive better. Therefore, we count on a lot of novelties in the upcoming model.

At this point, we are still waiting for official information about changes. Still, the testing model has been driving around for some time, so we can say that there is a nice amount of novelties, considering how massive this camouflage is. We count of novelties on both ends of the car, but mechanical tweaks are possible as well. Also, we would love to see interior improvements, while novelties under the hood are also welcome. The new version should hit the market sometime in the next summer.

2021 Chevy Equinox Exterior

It’s not hard to conclude that most of the changes are about to come in terms of the exterior design. We count on significant styling updates. The testing model has been spotted several times and it still wears a lot of camouflage. This clearly indicates major updates. We believe that the front end will get a completely new layout, in the same manner as the new Blazer. That would mean new headlights, grille, bumper and more. Updates on the rear end are expected too, as well as those typical mid-cycle novelties like new wheels, color options etc.

On the other side, the mechanical aspect of the crossover should remain largely the same. The 2021 Chevy Equinox will continue to ride on a familiar D2 platform. Some reports are suggesting a new suspension setup, which seems possible, considering that the current model doesn’t feature very impressive handling and overall driving characteristics. Still, take this with a dose of the reserve.

Interior

Changes on the inside are expected as well. The current versions sports a little bit dull dashboard design, which lacks the refinement of rivals. Also, there are several areas in the cabin that feature quite subpar quality of materials. We hope these things will improve, though we don’t expect miracles, considering that we are talking about updates during a production cycle.

On the other side, the overall cabin layout will remain the same. This is a well-equipped crossover, which offers a quite decent amount of space. Both rows are adult-friendly, while seats offer decent support and overall level of comfort. You can count on about 30 cubic feet behind the rear seats, which are decent ratings for the class, though many rivals offer more.

Features

Novelties in terms of standard equipment are expected as well. Still, we don’t expect significant updates, considering that this is one of the rare segments where this crossover offers more than most rivals. This particularly refers to tech features. Every Equinox comes standard with things like 7-inch touchscreen, Android Auto, Apple CarPlay, a Wi-Fi hot spot, Bluetooth, USB ports, 6-speaker audio system etc. In higher trims, you can also get a bigger 8-inch touchscreen, as well as wireless charging, satellite radio, navigation, a seven-speaker Bose audio system, a panoramic sunroof etc. This already looks pretty good, so things could only become better after the update.

On the other side, things aren’t that good in terms of safety. A rearview camera is the only thing you get in base models. Fortunately, adaptive cruise control, a surround-view camera, rear parking sensors, rear cross-traffic alert, blind-spot monitoring, a safety alert seat, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, forward collision warning and many other things are available in higher trims. So, this update may bring a couple of novelties in this aspect as well.

2021 Chevy Equinox Engines

Under the hood, we don’t expect to see changes. The 2021 Chevy Equinox should carry on with three familiar engines in the offer. Base models will continue with a 1.5-liter turbo-four, which is good for about 170 horsepower. Also, there is an optional 2.0-liter turbo-four engine, which features around 250 horsepower and delivers pretty impressive driving dynamics.

For those who want something fuel-efficient, there is a familiar 1.6-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 138 horsepower. It’s not particularly fast but you definitely won’t mind that after you see mpg ratings. This engine returns around 28 mpg in the city and 39 mpg on the highway. The base turbo-four is also very good in this aspect, as it returns around 26 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway.

2021 Chevy Equinox Release Date and Price

Considering that this will be a pretty big update, we expect that the launch date will be scheduled for some earlier date, probably for the summer of next year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes. The current model starts at around 24.000 dollars.
