2021 Dodge Durango Release Date, Concept, SRT

Once SUV, always SUV. After a short crossover, the familiar nameplate is coming back to the body-on-frame platform. Those are the latest reports about the 2021 Dodge Durango. While the first couple of generations were typical SUV models, the current one is a crossover, sharing most of its parts with Grand Cherokee. It looks like this won’t be the case anymore, as the next generations of the two models will go in a separate way.

While the Grand Cherokee is about to become more athletic, the new Durango will come back to its roots. We are about to see a classic truck-based design. The latest reports are also suggesting significant growth in size, as the new model will allegedly ride on the same platform as the new Ram 1500. The 2021 Dodge Durango could arrive already in the next year, though we are still waiting for the official confirmation.

2021 Dodge Durango Redesign

There’s no doubt that the platform change will be the most important novelty of the upcoming redesign. Besides the platform, the new 2021 Dodge Durango will also come with big changes in terms of size, as the new model will become a full-size SUV, according to the latest reports. This makes perfect sense, considering that FCA doesn’t have such a vehicle, unlike Chevy and Ford.

Therefore, we expect that the 2021 Dodge Durango will be a direct rival to models like Tahoe and Expedition. Moreover, FCA won’t offer one, but two full-size SUVs, as the Jeep Wagoneer is about to come back as well. Of course, the two models will share most of their parts, particularly in terms of mechanics. Both models will be heavily based on the Ram 1500 pickup truck.

Styling and Interior Design

At this point, it is hard to say how the 2021 Dodge Durango is going to look like. Dodge hasn’t released any new model for years, so we actually don’t know how the new design language will look like. Most likely, the new SUV will stick to Ram’s aesthetics, particularly at the front. Therefore, we expect that the new Durango will feature the same new grille, which has dropped the crosshair layout after decades. Also, there are new headlights and many more styling solutions that made the new Ram 1500 look very attractive.

FCA never had problems with interior designs, so expectations from the new Durango are pretty big. Once again, we count on a lot of similarities with the full-size truck, particularly in terms of the dashboard design, which should be very attractive and opulent. Naturally, a full load of the latest tech goodies seems like a certain thing. When it comes to the overall layout, we count on standard three rows of seats and a quite generous cargo volume.

2021 Dodge Durango Engines

Under the hood, the 2021 Dodge Durango should feature FCA’s familiar units. Base models will probably come with a familiar 3.6-liter V6 and a max output of around 305 horsepower. A well-known 5.7-liter Hemi V8 should be in the offer as well. This one delivers around 395 horsepower. We could expect a hi-performance version as well, probably with a 6.4-liter unit. Some reports even suggest a Hellcat engine, but that doesn’t sound very likely from this perspective.

Finally, we should see a diesel version in the offer as well. Of course, we count on a well-known 3.0-liter inline-six, which is good for about 260 horsepower.
