2021 Dodge Journey Redesign, Discontinuation, Price

You’ve seen so many movies about time machines and comings from the future. On the other side, do you ever wonder how it looks to come from the past? When it comes to crossovers, it would probably look Dodge Journey. This mid-size crossover has been around for more than a decade and it is definitely the most outdated model in the class. Moreover, it is that outdated that even a very low starting price doesn’t make it a reasonable choice. We’ve been expecting its swan song for years but somehow, the model is still in production. The problem is in the fact that a new crossover from FCA is still far away, so it looks that this model will remain in the offer for another year or two, which indicates the 2021 Dodge Journey may also come.

At this point, the exact details are still unavailable but we may presume it won’t feature any important change. We count on a familiar design and features. Also, the launch date should be scheduled for a typical time of year, which would mean sometime late in 2020.

2021 Dodge Journey Redesign

In terms of base design characteristics, this model definitely won’t feature any bigger change. We count on the same design, which hasn’t changed for more than a decade. It’s not hard to notice that the design language belongs to another era of the automotive industry, but mechanics and base design characteristics seem like an even bigger issue. Simply, the Journey wasn’t particularly great even at the time it was introduced.

Even then, most rivals were better cars and all of them have been redesigned at least once so far, so you may presume how big will be the gap between 2021 Dodge Journey and most competitors. Therefore, a low starting price is definitely something we could call a mitigating circumstance.

Interior

The cabin will also come without more important changes, but the fact is that this is probably the last thing you should worry about this crossover. Despite the age, materials are actually pretty fine and you can even find a lot of soft-touch surfaces. Still, the dashboard definitely reveal the model’s age, as some design solutions are pretty odd for today’s standards.

Dodge Journey Interior

You will find a pretty decent amount of space inside this crossover. The first row is very comfortable, while the second one is decent as well. We like the front seats, which are quite massive and supportive. Also, visibility is pretty good. On the other side, the third row is very tight and should be left for kids. Adults definitely won’t find it comfortable.

When it comes to the cargo volume, you may count on about 10.7 cubic feet behind rear seats. Once the third row folds down, the volume goes up to 37 cubic feet. Finally, the overall cargo space goes up to 67.6 cubic feet. All in all, these ratings are way below average for the class of mid-size SUVs.

Features

Given the model’s age, it’s no wonder that the list of standard equipment is pretty short. Practically, a 4.3-inch touch screen, a six-speaker stereo, and a USB port are the only standard tech features. In higher trims, you can get a bigger 8.4-inch touch screen, a navigation system, a rear-seat DVD player, satellite radio, Bluetooth etc.

The same story is about safety, as there are no such things as safety features in this model. A rearview camera is standard features, while all you can add are parking sensors.

When it comes to comfort and convenience, cloth upholstery is standard, while you can get leather, heated seats, power-adjustable driver’s seat, leather-wrapped steering wheel and similar things.

2021 Dodge Journey Engines

Under the hood, you may count on two very familiar engines. Base models will carry on with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder unit, which is good for 173 horsepower and 166 pound-feet of torque. You definitely want to skip this engine, as it comes in pair with an ancient 4-speed automatic gearbox, something that was outdated even at the time of the initial launch.

An optional 3.6-liter V6 is a far better choice, as it delivers 283 horses and 260 pound-feet of torque and comes coupled with a more modern 6-speed automatic transmission.

When it comes to fuel economy, the base engine returns around 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway. The V6 is good for about 17 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway.

2021 Dodge Journey Release Date and Price

We are still waiting to hear whether the 2021 Dodge Journey is coming or not. If it’s coming, we presume that the launch date will be scheduled for the last quarter of 2020. Changes in price are not expected, so base models should feature a pretty affordable starting price of  24.000 dollars.
