It’s no secret that GM is currently renewing a complete SUV lineup. Among new models that are about to come, naturally, there is also the 2021 GMC Yukon. The next generation of this huge SUV is about to come with a load of novelties. We are about to see a completely new design, built around the new platform. Naturally, new aesthetics are expected as well, just like the new interior design.
We have big expectations from the new 2021 GMC Yukon. The outgoing version is already pretty amazing in some aspects, particularly in terms of functionality, mostly because of tremendous cargo space. On the other side, the ride quality definitely isn’t a strong point, so the new model should come with notable improvements in these aspects. The testing model has been circulating around for some time and we are pretty sure it will be ready to hit the market in the next year.

2021 GMC Yukon Redesign
The upcoming redesign is about to bring a lot of novelties, that seems like a certain thing. First of all, it is important to mention that the 2021 GMC Yukon will be built over a new platform. The new architecture is called T1 and it is more an evolution of the current K2 than a completely new thing. Still, it will bring significant improvements in many aspects. First of all, we are about to see a significant weight reduction. A lot of steel will be replaced with aluminum, so the new generation is expected to be lighter for about 300 pounds.
Weight reduction will bring benefits in terms of fuel economy and overall efficiency, but that won’t be the only important novelty we are about to see. As we’ve just mentioned, one of the biggest complaints about the current model refers to a pretty firm ride. So, the 2021 GMC Yukon is about to significantly improve in this aspect. Among many new tech and design solutions, one of the highlights is definitely a rear independent suspension. This is definitely one of the biggest novelties of this redesign. As you may presume, it will significantly improve the comfort level and overall ride quality.
Styling
Naturally, this redesign will bring completely new aesthetics as well. The testing model has been around for some time and it still wears a complete camouflage. Therefore, we can’t say much about the new look, though we have no doubt that the new model will look significantly more attractive than the current version. We presume GMC will apply its latest design language and that the new SUV will feature pretty much the same face as the recently redesigned Sierra pickup truck.

This refers to the Denali model as well, which will continue with its distinctive design characteristics. In terms of the overall shape and proportions, we don’t expect bigger changes. Still, slight changes in terms of dimensions are possible. The standard model could get a little bit longer wheelbase. On the other side, the XL version is already the biggest model in the class, so we presume it won’t get any bigger after the redesign.
Interior
The current interior looks very nice and it is among the most stylish in the class. Still, there is always enough space for improvements. Therefore, we count that the 2021 GMC Yukon will get a completely new design. At this point, it is still early to talk about details. However, we expect that GMC will put a little bit more effort this time and that we are about to see bigger changes than we saw in the new Sierra.
A new, more opulent dashboard is the first thing that comes to mind, but we count on more comfort as well. This particularly refers to the standard version, which is currently pretty tight in the third row. As we’ve just mentioned, the new model could easily feature a little bit longer wheelbase, which would provide benefits in this aspect for sure.
2021 GMC Yukon Engines
Novelties under the hood are expected as well. The current model comes with two familiar gasoline units. Those are 5.3- and 6.2-liter V8 engines, which are good for about 355 and 420 horsepower, respectively. However, the latest reports are also suggesting a diesel version of the new SUV. Moreover, there is a big chance to see base models equipped with a 2.7-liter turbo-four, which delivers around 310 hp and 350 lb-ft of torque.
Another interesting thing we’ve spotted on the testing model is a pretty attractive exhaust system, which indicates we could see a performance version in the offer as well.

2021 GMC Yukon Release Date and Price
We expect that the 2021 GMC Yukon will probably hit the market sometime in the third quarter of the next year. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect more significant changes compared to the current model, which starts at around 50.000 dollars.
