2020 Land Rover Discovery Release date, Changes, Price

While everyone is talking about the new Discovery Sport next-generation model, its bigger brother is about to carry on in the same way. Characterized by excellent off-road performances and premium interior, this SUV has been in production for a full three decades. For all these years, we have seen five generations of it. The current one has been around for less than two years, so there is no doubt that the 2020 Land Rover Discovery will continue in the same way, as it will enter third production year.

Therefore, the best we can see from it, in terms of novelties, are minor updates, particularly in terms of standard equipment. Other than that, things are about to remain the same, which means the same design, the same engines in the offer, etc. This also indicates that the 2020 Land Rover Discovery won’t come any earlier than usual. We expect to see it sometime late in the year.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Redesign

At first glance, this is a typical mid-size SUV. However, there are many interesting design solutions underneath. First of all, it actually rides on a unibody platform, on the company’s familiar D7 architecture. Still, that doesn’t affect Discovery’s overall performances. This is arguably one of the most off-road capable models in the class. However, the thing that makes this model great is super smooth on-road performances as well. Due to a unibody platform, it isn’t as sturdy as typical body-on-frame SUVs, like Toyota 4Runner. It can’t compare in terms of durability and reliability, but we are talking strictly about dealing with hard terrains, 2020 Land Rover Discovery will remain pretty much unparalleled.

Visually, it completely follows the brand’s design language, characterized by pretty conventional design solutions. So, you don’t need to worry whether it will look outdated in a few years or not.

Interior

Typically for the brand, the overall interior quality is great. All surfaces feature hi-end quality and plenty of styles. The dashboard largely resembles hi-end models like Range Rover. When it comes to comfort and overall functionality, the 2020 Land Rover will also stand pretty good. This SUV features a quite spacious cabin, which comes standard with two rows of seats.

The third row is optional and increases seating capacity to seven. As we’ve just mentioned, the overall comfort is amazing, especially if we consider that leather upholstery comes standard, as well as power-adjustable front seats. This is probably the most practical Land Rover you can find, thanks to a very generous cargo area. You can count on about 43.5 cubic feet behind rear seats, while the overall capacity goes around 88 cubic feet. For comparison, that’s more space than you will find in the flagship Range Rover. Also, it seems important to mention that power tailgate is standard.

Features

When it comes to standard equipment, this SUV is very generous. As we already mentioned, things like leather upholstery, power-adjustable seats, and power tailgate are standard. Also, there is a long list of tech goodies in the offer. Some of the highlights are things like 10-inch touchscreen, navigation, a Wi-Fi hot spot, a USB port, Bluetooth, a 10-speaker stereo, etc. In higher trims, you can also get things like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, satellite radio, HD Radio, a head-up display, a rear-seat entertainment system, etc.

In terms of safety, all models come with advanced systems like a rearview camera, rear parking sensors, lane keep assist, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision warning, low-speed automatic emergency braking, etc. Also, you can get optional adaptive cruise control, blind spot monitoring, a surround-view parking camera, traffic sign recognition, high-speed automatic emergency braking, etc.

2020 Land Rover Discovery Engines

For the North American market, the 2020 Land Rover Discovery will carry on with two familiar units. Base models with a familiar 3.0-liter Supercharged V6, which is good for about 340 horsepower. Also, there is an optional turbocharged diesel engine, which delivers around 254 horsepower. While gasoline engine obviously delivers a more dynamic ride. This diesel unit also has some advantages. First of all, it features significantly better fuel economy, which goes around 21 mpg in the city and 26 mpg on the highway. Also, it has more torque, which could be important for those who want to tow as well. On the other side, gasoline versions return around 16 mpg in the city and 21 mpg on the highway, which is some of the lowest ratings in the class. Both engines come with an 8-speed automatic gearbox.

There are no bigger changes for the next year, so the 2020 Land Rover Discovery is about to come in a typical time of year, sometime in late 2019. When it comes to the price, we don’t expect bigger changes compared to the current model, which start at around 53.000 dollars.
