2020 Genesis GV80 Is Genuine Luxury SUV

Inspired by Japanese carmakers, Hyundai has also formed a luxury brand called Genesis. This happened a couple of years ago and there are already some interesting models in the offer. After the new company finished the work on sedans, it is time for a crossover. The first model to come is 2020 Genesis GV80, which will compete in the mid-size segment, so we may presume that models like BMW X5 and Mercedes GLE will be key rivals.

The new model is still in a testing phase and wears almost complete camouflage. Still, we can see some of the styling cues and easily notice that this will be a pretty large vehicle, bigger than the Santa Fe. When it comes to powertrain, both six and eight cylinders should be available, as well as some electrified version. The new model should hit the market early in the next year.

2020 Genesis GV80 Redesign

Since we are talking about a pretty fresh brand in the automotive industry, the 2020 Genesis GV80 will be a completely new model. As we’ve already mentioned, this will be a mid-size luxury crossover. These days, experts consider this as the most competitive premium segment in the automotive industry, so it’s not hard to conclude that the Korean carmaker has big ambitions with this model.

In terms of mechanics, it will be based on the new Santa Fe and Palisade, though notably bigger and with various upgrades. When it comes to styling, we expect to see a lot of inspiration to be taken from the GV80 concept version, which was presented a couple of years ago. Of course, the production version will undergo certain modifications, in order to be more production-friendly. This would mean a little bit different front end, probably with more traditional headlights design compared to the concept. When it comes to the overall silhouette, the new model will feature a slightly sloping roof, though the overall layout will remain wagon-like.

Interior

The 2020 Genesis GV80 will be a luxury crossover so we expect a lot of opulence from the inside. As we already mentioned, the testing model has been spotted. Moreover, spy photographers managed to capture a couple of interior photos as well. However, the dashboard is still completely covered and the only thing that can be seen at this stage is an instrument cluster, which appears to be analog.

Many drivers will like such a layout for sure. When it comes to the dashboard design, we presume that a lot of inspiration will be taken from the G90 sedan, which has been presented recently and which features a pretty attractive dashboard design. It is designed in a pretty classical manner, full of horizontal lines and clean surfaces.

Also, the infotainment screen is integrated into the dashboard, which is another thing we like very much. Of course, the new SUV will probably come with a couple of modifications, but we have no doubt that the overall opulence will remain at the same level.

2020 Genesis GV80 Engines

Latest reports are suggesting that the 2020 Genesis GV80 will come with a pretty wide engine offer. It looks like there will be two V6 engines available. Base models will probably come with a larger 3.8-liter V6, which is good for about 311 horsepower. A smaller but twin-turbocharged 3.3-liter unit should be in the offer as well.

This version is good for pretty impressive 365 horsepower. Finally, the range-topping model is expected to come with a large 5.0-liter V8 engine, which is good for about 420 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. All three engines will come in pair with a new eight-speed automatic gearbox.

Is there a chance to see a hybrid version?

Considering that direction in which the automotive industry is going these days, there is no doubt that the 2020 Genesis GV80 will also come with a powertrain that includes some form of electrifications. It probably won’t be a fuel-cell powertrain, like we saw in the concept version. At this point, a hybrid or plug-in hybrid systems sounds most likely, though we won’t exclude the possibility to see an all-electric version in the future as well. More details should be known soon.
