This small crossover has been around for just a couple of years and it already established a pretty solid position on the market. That was pretty much expected, considering that an average driver of subcompact crossovers gets everything he needs in this small package. Good driving dynamics, stylish exterior, elegant interior and a long list of standard equipment are some of the highlights. The 2020 Hyundai Kona will represent the third production year of the first generation and it looks like there are no bigger changes to come. It will continue with a familiar design, as well as with same mechanics.
On the other side, we are about to see a couple of tweaks in terms of standard equipment. Still, the base trim level organization will remain the same and it will include four familiar trims in the offer. The 2020 Hyundai Kona will arrive later in the year.

What’s new for the 2020 Hyundai Kona?
As we’ve just mentioned, the 2020 Hyundai Kona won’t come with too many novelties. Practically, a couple of novelties in terms of standard equipment is everything we expect to see. Each trim level will come with a couple of additions. For example, one of the biggest novelties for the next year is adaptive cruise control, which will be available in Limited and Ultimate models. On the other side, a 4.2-inch instrument cluster display, which was reserved for highest trim levels so far, will become standard in the SEL model as well. Limited and Ultimate trims will also come standard with auto-dimming rearview mirror with HomeLink. Finally, there is a new orange interior accent kit, which will be available in range-topping trim levels, only in a combination with certain exterior colors. There is a couple of more tweaks to come, but things will generally remain pretty much the same.
2020 Hyundai Kona Redesign
Other than new features, the 2020 Hyundai Kona won’t change too much. The current model is still pretty fresh for bigger modifications, so we are about to see a familiar design that is based on the company’s latest design language but also utilizes a lot of exclusive styling details. A dynamic look is definitely one of the model’s strongest points, but the suspension layout has been done pretty well too.
So, steering and the overall handling is at a high level as well. With a nice combination of attractive look and great driveability, it’s no wonder that the Kona is becoming one of the most popular models in the segment.
Interior
There aren’t many models in the class that are as upscale as the Kona when it comes to interior design. The next year won’t bring anything important, so things will remain pretty much the same. The overall interior layout is pretty attractive, as well as the dashboard. Moreover, many surfaces are soft to the touch, though there is a certain amount of low-rent materials. Still, that is a common thing among crossovers of this size, so we definitely won’t take this as a drawback. When it comes to the interior space, the first row is pretty generous.

Also, the seats are pretty amazing. On the other side, rear seats are typically tight for the segment, so taller passengers won’t feel too comfortable. Base models come with cloth upholstery. In higher trims, you can also get things like leather upholstery, heated seats and steering wheel, power-adjustable seats and many more conveniences. When it comes to the cargo area, the Kona is a little bit disappointing. It lags behind most rivals, as there is just around 19 cubic feet. The overall cargo capacity goes around 49 cubic feet.
2020 Hyundai Kona Engines
The powertrain lineup will definitely remain the same for the next year. Therefore, count on two familiar engine choices. Base models will feature a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engine with around 150 horsepower, which comes in pair with a six-speed automatic transmission. It seems more than decent for a daily ride but if you prefer a little bit more dynamics, a 1.6-liter turbo-four engine seems much better. This one is good for about 175 horsepower and also features significantly more torque. Another important thing to mention is that this engine comes with a fast-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission.
A very good fuel economy is another strong point of this crossover. The base engine returns around 27 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on the highway, while the turbocharged unit is good for about 28 mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. These are definitely above-average ratings for the class.

Release Date and Price
Considering that we won’t see any significant change in the next year, expect its arrival sometime late in the years. Base models will go around 20.000 dollars. Key competitors are models like Toyota C-HR, Kia Soul, Honda HR-V, Mini Countryman etc.
