It looks like this compact crossover is about to come with a diesel option for the next year. That will definitely be beneficial in many ways. On the other side, base design characteristics are about to remain the same. The super stylish crossover has been around for a couple of years, so we can easily agree that it still looks fresh enough.
Moreover, it is still one of the prettiest models in the class, so Mazda really has no reason to make any visual changes at the moment. Same refers to the interior design, which is also one of the finest in class. Other than a new diesel engine, we expect 2020 Mazda CX-5 to continue with two familiar gasoline options. When it comes to the launch date, it should be scheduled for the last quarter of the year.
2020 Mazda CX-5 Gets Oil Burner
The only major novelty for the next year will be a new diesel engine in the offer. This engine has been used in CX-5 on some markets for a long time and it works very well. So, there is no reason why not to try with it in North America. It is a familiar 2.2-liter SkyActiv D turbodiesel, which is good for about 170 horsepower and 290 pound-feet of torque. Such amount of power seems enough for a daily ride, but an optional turbocharged engine is definitely a much better deal. This version features a max power of 227 horsepower on regular and 250 horsepower on premium fuel. In both cases, acceleration is great, as well as overall performances. Both engines come paired with a 6-speed automatic transmission, with standard FWD and optional AWD.

As we already mentioned, we don’t expect to see more important changes for the next year in terms of styling and overall design. Base models will come equipped with tech goodies like a 7-inch touch screen, HD Radio, voice command, Bluetooth, two USB ports, etc. In higher trims, you can also get things like a premium audio system, satellite radio, navigation, additional USB ports, etc. Also, smartphone goodies like Android Auto and Apple CarPlay are also available.
In terms of safety, all models come with things like a rearview camera, blind spot monitoring, rear cross traffic alert, and low-speed automatic braking. This looks pretty impressive for base models, but things are even better in higher trims. You can get advanced systems like head-up display, forward collision warning, full-speed automatic braking, front and rear parking sensors, a 360-degree parking camera, adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, fog lights, traffic sign recognition, etc.
