We’ve been hearing stories about the GLG for more than five years and the last one suggests that the new SUV could finally come in the next year. According to the latest reports, the 2020 Mercedes Benz GLG is under development and it will be designed as a direct rival to Range Rover Sport. This means serious off-road performances, but we have no doubt that the new model will also be pretty luxurious, easy to drive and full of advanced technologies. At this point, most details are based on rumors, as the company still keeps this model as secret.

2020 Mercedes Benz GLG Redesign
When it comes to base design characteristics, there is a couple of interesting things to mention. First of all, let’s start with the base design. As we’ve already mentioned, the new model will be a serious off-roader. Various reports suggest things like three locking differentials but the interesting thing is that the German manufacturer doesn’t plan to work on the body on frame platform. Just like with the new GLB, this will practically be a crossover, although we are talking about a pretty capable vehicle.
Styling
When it comes to the styling, the latest reports suggest that the new model won’t have much in common with most crossovers of this brand. The styling would rather be rugged, designed in the manner of most capable off-roaders. Naturally, a lot of inspiration will be taken from the legendary G Wagen, including a pretty boxy shape and lots of conventional design solutions. You may expect to see a lot of things in common with the GLB model. This particularly refers to the front end, although the 2020 Mercedes Benz GLG will be a significantly bigger vehicle.

Interior
The cabin will probably be a completely different story. We expect that the German manufacturer will bring all the luxury it can deliver. This means hi-end materials across the whole cabin, but the dashboard would be designed in a little bit more rugged manner, something similar to the new GLB. In terms of the size, the 2020 Mercedes Benz GLG should be similar to the GLE, but the overall layout will include just two rows of seats and a spacious cargo area.
Of course, we also expect to see loads of standard equipment. This includes numerous tech goodies. Although primarily an off-roader, this model will bring all plenty of sophisticated features, including all kinds of tech goodies, as well as numerous driver-assist features.
2020 Mercedes Benz GLG Engines
When it comes to powertrain, we presume that the German manufacturer will rely on two familiar and proven engine options. Of course, the first one that comes to mind is a 3.0-liter six-cylinder unit, which is good for about 365 horsepower and comes in pair with a 9-speed automatic transmission. We presume that all-wheel drive will be standard in this model. Higher trims should come with a twin-turbo V8 engine, which delivers impressive 485 horsepower and also comes in pair with an 8-speed automatic gearbox. Another thing we should mention is that both engines will probably feature a mild-hybrid system called EQ Boost, which improves fuel economy and provides an additional 21 horsepower in short periods.
Outside North America, we may presume that the new model will be available in diesel versions as well. We count on a more powerful version of a 3.0-liter turbodiesel, which is good for about 330 horsepower and 516 pound-feet of torque.

2020 Mercedes Benz GLG Release Date and Price
The new 2020 Mercedes Benz GLG still waits for the official confirmations, so take its arrival with a reserve. Still, many reports suggest it could hit the market by the end of next year. When it comes to the price, we presume that the new model would go around 65.000 dollars.
