Big novelties are coming for the 2020 Opel GrandLand X! According to the latest reports, we are about to see a plug-in hybrid version pretty soon. The compact crossover has been around for a couple of years. It came as one of the first models that were actually a product of PSA Group. With a new EMP2 platform, the new crossover tends to be more competitive than some previous, GM-sourced models.
The overall impression is that the company has managed to meet this demand, although there is still a lot of space for improvement. In any case, the upcoming model is coming with significant reinforcement. We are about to see a plug-in hybrid powertrain in the offer, which will make this crossover faster and greener. According to the latest reports, orders will start in a couple of weeks, while the new model will hit the market sometime late in the year.

2020 Opel GrandLand X Gets a Plug-In Hybrid Powertrain
Without any doubt, this is the biggest novelty for the 2020 Opel GrandLand X. The new model is about to come electrified, finally. As it was expected, the new system comes from PSA. It is based on a familiar 1.6-liter turbo-four engine, which is good for about 200 horsepower. In addition, there is a couple of electric motors and each one is good for 109 horsepower. Due to different peaks, a combined output goes around 300 horsepower. This will be by far the most powerful version in the offer, so it’s no wonder it will also be the fastest.
We presume that the new version will be able to hit 60 in less than 6.5 seconds. Another important thing to mention is a 13.2-kWh battery pack. With such capacity, the new version will also feature all-electric model and be able to go around 30 miles on batteries. Finally, one of the best things about the 2020 Opel GrandLand X Plug-in Hybrid will be the fact that the power is sent to all wheels.
2020 Opel GrandLand X Engines
Other than a new plug-in hybrid version, the 2020 Opel GrandLand X is expected to continue in the same way when it comes to engines. Depending on the market, the offer differs for a bit. In Europe, base models usually go with a small 1.2-liter turbo gasoline engine. Of course, there is a 1.6-liter unit as well, which delivers around 180 horsepower. Of course, there is also a palette of PSA’s familiar 1.6 and 2.0-liter HDi engines, with the most powerful version that delivers around 175 horsepower. Unfortunately, front-wheel-drive will remain the only available layout.

2020 Opel GrandLand X Redesign
In terms of base design characteristics, the 2020 Opel GrandLand X definitely won’t change. Although some reports were suggesting a facelift or similar changes, we believe that it is still early for such modifications. Not only that the overall design will remain the same, but we also expect that the styling will remain untouched. Expect to see the same exterior design, which didn’t include any radical change compared to models from GM era. Practically, the new design language is just an evolution of the previous styling philosophy, so there aren’t too many interesting things about the new crossover.
Typically for Opel, the styling is rather conservative, though there is a certain amount of interesting new details. Still, that is way too small to say that the 2020 Opel GrandLand X will be an interesting vehicle in terms of the styling. The next year won’t bring any important change. Practically, the best we could see is a couple of new color options.
Interior
From the inside, you can notice a lot of influence from PSA. In the past, Opel’s models definitely weren’t the prettiest ones in terms of interior design. Also, the quality of the materials had often been subpar. This time, things are completely different. The new model features an upscale cabin, which is full of quality materials and delivers a lot of style. We would say, pretty much on par with Peugeot 3008. The cabin is spacious and can accommodate four adult passengers with ease. Moreover, the cargo area is generous as well.

Besides plenty of space and functionality, this crossover is also quite generous in terms of standard equipment. This refers to both tech features and advanced safety systems. The 2020 Opel GrandLand X shouldn’t come with too many novelties in this aspect. Of course, a couple of novelties are expected but the core will definitely remain the same.
Release Date and Price
Despite the fact that the new plug-in hybrid version is coming, we won’t see the 2020 Opel GrandLand X much earlier than usual. It should hit the market sometime late in the year and the new version will probably go around 40.000 dollars. On the other side, the starting price should remain the same, which would mean somewhere around 25.000 dollars.
