2021 Land Rover Defender Comeback, Price and Interior

The iconic off-roader is coming back after a couple of years of break. This time, we are about to see a completely new model, the first redesign since 1983. In the past, this SUV was mostly oriented to hard terrains, so frequent updates weren’t necessary. However, problems appear when emissions regulations became stricter. Therefore, the company decided to develop a completely new model after so many years.  It took some time, so the Defender’s name wasn’t present on the market for a couple of years. Now it comes completely new, with lots of interesting novelties.

2021 Land Rover Defender Redesign

When it comes to base design characteristics, one of the first things we should mention is the platform. In the past, this was a typical body-on-frame SUV but times are changing so the 2021 Land Rover Defender will ride on a unibody platform. The new chassis is completely made of aluminum and, obviously, it brings significant benefits in terms of weight reduction, efficiency and overall performances. Still, the company claims to the new model will manage to keep a high level of stiffness and rigidity, so the new model will be even more off-road capable than the famous predecessor.

The most notable difference is the styling. This is particularly interesting because the previous models always feature pretty much the same styling, which hasn’t changed for decades. Now the 2021 Land Rover Defender comes with a completely new look, which isn’t just modern but also brings a lot of futuristic details. The company tried to implement some styling elements that clearly resemble the original, but the new SUV is mostly about sharp lines and futuristic approach.

Still, there is one thing that is the same. Once again, there will be two versions in the offer, with three or five doors. The three-door Land Rover 90 will feature a little bit more than 101 inches in the wheelbase, while the 110 model will be good for almost 120 inches between the axles.

Interior

When it comes to interior design, you may expect a mix of classic and modern design solutions. This is most notable on the dashboard, which looks classic but also modern at the same time. The overall shape is pretty simplistic and consists of a couple of straight horizontal lines, while the steering wheels also resembles the classic one. On the other side, the modern part of the interior includes hi-quality, soft-touch materials, as well as loads of new technologies. As we already mentioned, the new model will come with either three or five doors, with an obvious difference in the amount of interior space.

2021 Land Rover Defender Engines

The previous version had issues with emission regulations. Therefore, the 2021 Land Rover Defender will come with a completely new lineup of engines, from the latest, Ingenium, generation. We count on both diesel and gasoline units. When it comes to diesel engines, base models should feature a 2.0-liter turbo-four with around 200 horsepower. A more powerful version of this engine is good for about 240 horsepower and will be available as well.

When it comes to gasoline units, you may count on a new turbo-four that delivers around 300 horsepower. Finally, expect to see a hybrid version, which is based on a 3.0-liter inline-six engine and delivers nearly 400 horsepower.

All engines will come in pairs with 8-speed automatic transmission.
